This is a testimony and learner journey for ‘snowy’. He was on a joint project with the police, probation service, city hearts and total training provision.
‘Snowy’ was invited to an information advice, So any needs of the learner can be addressed to ensure that all relevant agencies can be set up support learner through the course into employment and beyond. Snow had a bad experience at school, with teachers giving negative motivation and feedback. Snowy was unsure what the course will be like.
At first Snowy was a bit disengaged. Once the training started snowy became very engaged with the training and the support given.
Snowy had an abusive child upbringing, which lead to substance misuse. This in turn lead to a number of conviction. He has been trying to access counselling and support with regards to this matter for 25 years. Because of the multi-agency composition of forging ahead counselling was able to be accessed and settle within a matter of days(Started Monday had his first counselling session on Friday) This greatly increased his confidence and to gain employment. He completed a three week employability course developing interview CV and job searching skills.
Snowy apply for a series of jobs with support with forging ahead team. Snowy was successful in gaining employment through the support and training. He was given through total training provision.
This specific gentleman came to the course, not knowing what he would get with regards to knowledge and support. He spoke about many times he has been on Employability courses before and found them not to be very useful and gave little support.
We identified that he needed support to promote confidence and to give good employability skills. Also one of the main concerns was getting back his children who was in foster care.
He completed all the employability training and activities, throughout the course. He did get an interview while completing applying for the job while completing the searching for a job, lessons and activity. Additional support was given by members of the forging ahead team going shopping with him to get a suit for this job interview. Also, members of the forging ahead team did take him for his interview as it was difficult to get there by bus. He was successful with the job interview. The forging ahead team was able to source taxi fares for the first two weeks of his employment.
With regards to support for him with his children, expensive support was given. He had to go to the review meeting about children at school, Forging Ahead team members went to this meeting to give him support. Also to give support after the meeting because he found it very distressing. Members of the Forging Ahead team submitted character reference to support him been able to get to his children back. He went to court with regards to his children and had a positive outcome as he got his children back and he had gained employment and accommodation to support himself and his children.
