Safeguarding refers to the proactive measures taken to protect the welfare, well-being, and safety of individuals, particularly apprentices. It involves recognising and addressing any potential risks or concerns to ensure their protection. Safeguarding is crucial in apprenticeships as it creates a secure environment, promotes the well-being of apprentices, and allows them to learn and develop in a safe setting.

At Total Training Provision, safeguarding is of utmost importance. We provide guidance and support to employers and apprentices alike, ensuring they are aware of safeguarding principles and procedures. Our team offers training sessions, resources, and clear reporting channels to address any safeguarding concerns promptly and effectively. We work closely with employers to ensure that all necessary safeguarding measures are in place throughout the apprenticeship journey.

Employers have a significant role in safeguarding apprentices. Their responsibilities include ensuring that employees working alongside apprentices have undergone relevant background checks, such as DBS checks, to ensure they are of good character and pose no threat. Employers must also be aware of their statutory duties towards apprentice welfare, familiarise themselves with reporting arrangements, and take appropriate actions to address any safeguarding concerns.

If you have a safeguarding concern about an apprentice, it is essential to take immediate action. First, follow the established reporting procedures within your organisation or apprenticeship program. Report the concern to the designated safeguarding officer or contact person. They will guide you on the next steps to address the issue, ensuring the safety and well-being of the apprentice. Remember, safeguarding concerns should never be ignored or delayed.

Apprentices play a crucial role in their own safeguarding. They should familiarise themselves with the safeguarding policies and procedures in place, understand their rights, and be proactive in reporting any concerns they may have. It’s important for apprentices to communicate openly with their employers, trainers, or designated safeguarding officers about any issues affecting their safety or well-being. By being vigilant and proactive, apprentices can contribute to creating a safe and secure learning environment for themselves and their peers.
