In unit 3 on the Mental Health First Aid course, I have learnt about wellness action plans. In my role as a registered manager for a domiciliary care company, I have now designed and implemented these with all of my care staff. I have rolled out a wellness programme that includes having regular contact with all my staff as part of their supervisions to monitor mental health needs.
Due to lockdown etc, my staff team have found that these wellness action plans have allowed them to agree actions and plans to reduce stress and isolation. My team are telling me that they feel listened to and as an employer, I feel that I am now able to spot any signs of potential mental ill health and act accordingly.
I can already see the benefits to my team with staff speaking out on how they are feeling. My team also appear more motivated and are actively using their wellness action plans on a daily basis.
