What does this qualification cover?

This qualification is designed to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of autism and how to provide effective, person-centred support. It explores autism in a practical and theoretical context, enabling learners to support individuals in a positive, respectful, and informed way.

Learners will gain an understanding of:

  • How to adopt a positive, inclusive approach when supporting individuals with autism

  • Key legislation and guidance relating to autism, alongside an overview of how theories and perspectives on autism have developed over time

  • How to support individuals with autism through transitions, such as changes in routine, education, or life stages

  • The range of therapeutic interventions and support services available, including those for individuals with co-occurring conditions

  • Strategies to support communication, social interaction, and emotional wellbeing in individuals with autism

  • Why individuals with autism may be more vulnerable, and the role and responsibilities of support workers in safeguarding, in line with current legislation and organisational policies


Who is this qualification suitable for?

This qualification is suitable for learners who are interested in developing their understanding of autism, particularly those working or aspiring to work in health, social care, education, or support roles.

There are no formal entry requirements. However, learners may find it beneficial to have completed a Level 2 qualification in a related subject or to have some relevant experience in a care or support setting.
