Apprenticeship Journey:
A Personal Story
1. Can you tell us a bit about your journey and what brought you to this course?
My journey began in November 2024 when I joined Wirral Change Organisation as a volunteer. Over the next few months, I dedicated myself to supporting the organisation, and by February 2025, my hard work was recognised and I was offered the Trainee Admin Team Leader position.
Now, as the Admin Team Leader, I manage a 12-person team across different areas, including reception, the drop-in office, and the Wirral Change Hub.
At first, managing such a diverse team was challenging, but I embraced the opportunity to grow. My success in improving operations and the positive feedback I received motivated me to further develop my leadership skills. That’s why I decided to take this Team Leader Apprenticeship course—to become a stronger, more effective leader and continue making a meaningful impact.
2. What are your goals for the future, and how do you feel this apprenticeship will help you achieve them?
My goal is to become an even stronger leader, both within Wirral Change and beyond.
This apprenticeship is equipping me with practical leadership techniques, communication strategies, and the confidence to handle challenges. In the long term, I hope to take on higher management roles and possibly mentor others who, like me, are eager to grow.
The course is giving me the tools to turn these ambitions into reality.
3. How has your journey been so far, from starting until now?
It’s been a journey of growth and resilience. Starting as a volunteer, I never imagined I’d be leading a team so soon.
There were obstacles—balancing different responsibilities, learning to delegate, and gaining my team’s trust—but each challenge taught me something valuable.
Now, the areas I manage run smoothly, and I’m proud of the feedback I’ve received from my organisation. The apprenticeship is further boosting my confidence and showing me that leadership is a skill I can continue to refine.
4. What does being on this course mean to you personally?
It means opportunity. As someone who started with no leadership experience, this course is proof that hard work and dedication can open doors.
It’s also deeply personal—I want to represent the idea that refugees and newcomers can thrive when given trust and support.
This apprenticeship isn’t just about career growth; it’s about proving to myself and others that I can lead and make a difference.
5. Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience or your hopes?
I hope my story encourages others to believe in their potential, even if they start from nothing.
Wirral Change took a chance on me, and I’m determined to repay that trust by growing as a leader and uplifting my team.
6. Can we share your story as part of Refugee Week 2025?
I’d be honoured if my journey could inspire others.
If my story helps highlight the contributions refugees can make when given opportunities, I’m happy to share it openly.
