Unlocking Social Value Through
Levy Gifting

How TTEC is turning unused levy funds into opportunity, inclusion, and growth.

Through a £322,500 levy gift, TTEC empowered over 10 smaller employers and 47 learners across childcare, charities, and business sectors — generating an estimated £24.8 million in social value. From upskilled early years practitioners to confident new leaders in charities and communications, this partnership proves that levy gifting isn’t just good compliance — it’s smart, sustainable investment in people and place.

Why Big Businesses Should Consider Levy Gifting

When large organisations gift their levy to smaller employers, they help transform local communities:

  • Upskill staff that SMEs couldn’t otherwise afford to train
  • Build leadership pipelines in charities, nurseries, and small businesses
  • Deliver higher-quality services for local communities

Every pound spent through levy gifting has a multiplier effect, creating opportunity, inclusion, and growth.

Our Visit to Gradwell Communications

Gradwell Communications, based in Bath, are a leading provider of cloud-based communication and VoIP solutions, supporting thousands of businesses across the UK. With over two decades of experience, they pride themselves on innovation, reliability, and seamless communication systems.

During our visit, we met two recent apprenticeship successes — learners who achieved distinctions in their Level 3 Team Leader and Level 3 Customer Service apprenticeships. Gradwell also has a learner completing the Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship, developing advanced leadership skills to drive growth and innovation across the business.

This demonstrates how apprenticeship levy funding can upskill individuals, strengthen leadership pipelines, and deliver lasting impact for both businesses and communities.

The Numbers Behind the Impact

Using the TOMs framework, we can estimate the social value generated by funded apprenticeships. For example:

  • Level 3 Early Years Educator (EYE) Apprenticeship: 18 months on-programme + ~3 months EPA ≈ 91 weeks
  • NT10 proxy value: £251.79 per week.

Social Value Calculation:

  • Full duration (91 weeks) → 91 × £251.79 ≈ £22,913
  • On-programme only (78 weeks) → 78 × £251.79 ≈ £19,640

This shows how each apprenticeship contributes significant measurable social value, beyond just training the individual..
